In July 2013 Bima Wear in conjunction with Ruby Gaea and the Child Abuse Task Force (CAT) launched ‘Bikkies’ 2 x animated shorts. The characters and settings were modeled around Bima Wear and other community members. Noella, Lucia and Marita were some of the voice actors for the characters. The project was enjoyed by all involved over many months of hard work and laughter.
The Bikkies animations are a unique resource aimed at delivering CAT educational messages on child and sexual abuse issues to remote Aboriginal Communities throughout the Northern Territory. The animations have been developed for television screening and in high definitions format for cinemas.
The Bikkies animations revolve around a number of community women who have taken on a role of community protectors. When they receive information of an issue, they don suitable 'super hero' clothing and disguise, depart on their motor bikes (hence the name 'Bikkies') and deal with the situation.
The Bikkies characters use dialogue, story-telling and humour to resolve problems which arise in their community, including child and sexual abuse. The audience is informed of an individual’s legal obligations and what help can be expected from the police, particularly CAT investigators.
